How long should a birthday wish be?
For a story or a caption, one line. For a card or direct message, two to four sentences. Anything longer only works if every sentence is doing a job; padding reads as effort without thought.
Is it better to be funny or sincere?
Match how you normally talk to them. If your relationship runs on teasing, a joke followed by one honest sentence works best — the humour gets attention and the honest line is what gets remembered.
